Concrete and Mosaic Sculpture Intensive with Dean Hanmer

Vashon Island, Washington - 5 days (Monday thru Friday)

This is an opportunity to create something absolutely unique for your home or garden, an 8 foot tall, concrete and mosaic, giant. Over five days, and about 30 studio hours, we will be creating a Garden Art Masterpiece. I should say, you will be creating, but I will be there every step of the way, teacher and assistant. Bring a family member or a friend to co-conspire, if you like. Fathers and sons are particularly good teams for this big project, but of course everyone is welcome.

You will be working with a variety of cement and concrete mixes, including Milestone Specialty Concrete, various steel wires, meshes, and extrusions, stone, glass, and any special decorative objects you may bring from home. It may sound difficult, but it's not. I've worked with kids as young as seven, but for a big project like this, twelve years and up is better.

When you arrive and tour the gardens, and see the sculptures, you won't believe that you can make one in a week, but each day a little more progress is made and the excitement builds as a personality takes shape. By the second day, you are thinking less and laughing more, with occasional outbursts of bliss and intense joy. You are doing it and loving it, which is good, because this sculpture will last you a lifetime, even outside.

Creating a big sculpture is fun, empowering, and a great team-building experience. Classes always start on Monday and class size is limited to you or your group, as this is your opportunity to work one-on-one with me in my studio. By Friday, your Garden Giant will be finished and ready to load, on your truck or mine, for it's trip home. (A finished sculpture will weigh about 200 pounds and is easily moved by two people with a hand truck.)

The total cost is $1575 (plus any delivery charges.) The total value is priceless!

Call me or email for more information and to book your art vacation. Lodging packages are available. Vashon Island is a rural paradise, just a short ferry ride from Seattle or Tacoma.
