Born in the former Soviet Union, Boris Spivak received his education and training in the city of Lvov, the cultural center of the Ukraine. He attended the Ivan Fedorov College of Printing (now Ukrainian Academy of Printing) and received the honor of being invited to teach there in 1963. In November 1980, Boris and his family immigrated to the United States.
Today Spivak is a master sculptor whose works, accomplished with masterful craftsmanship, exhibit both architectonic strength and psychological depth. Expressed with aesthetic harmony, they are a synthesis of ideal composition and truth. Since 1980, Spivak has participated in numerous exhibitions all over the United States. He is currently teaching modeling and drawing in Seattle Academy of Fine Arts, Kirkland Art Center and Mizirkin Fine Arts, Inc. and is a member of the National Sculpture Society, Northwest Stone Sculpture Association and Pacific Northwest Sculptor Association.
He believes that to be an artist is a privilege and responsibility given to one by God. Like architecture, sculpture is intended to be a permanent living history of a people’s culture, and a memorial to their era and society.
